Looking to learn the 5-string banjo or acoustic guitar?

I work with students of all levels and abilities and from any background, both in person and online via Zoom. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about lessons, my approach to teaching or what kind of instrument you should bring. I can also offer one-off group workshops for festivals, camps etc.

Banjo:

I specialise in teaching people 5-string clawhammer banjo using traditional music from the old time tradition as a framework. If you are interested in 2-finger or 3-finger banjo, I can help you with those styles too. Check out my YouTube channel to get a sense of the styles of banjo I play and teach.

Guitar:

I enjoy working with students who are interested in folk guitar and fingerstyle playing techniques. These are the kinds of things you hear at jam sessions, ceilidhs, to accompany yourself or others singing or other instrumentalists playing traditional tunes.

Lesson cancellation policy:

Please note that I have a cancellation policy, which I require all students to read and agree to before we begin working together:

Once we have agreed on a date/time for a lesson I will consider it booked in the diary. If you wish to cancel a booked lesson (unless in exceptional circumstances, illness etc) and we cannot find a suitable alternative slot in the same week, I still require full payment for the lesson. Please note that this is not an advance notice cancellation type policy and is the same if you cancel well in advance or on the day so please make sure you are happy to commit to a lesson when we agree on a date/time. The policy is in place in order to guarantee my income for the week once we have put a lesson in the diary. Thanks for your understanding.
